Program Overview

Excavator Operation trains operators in safe machine set-up, digging and loading techniques, safe trenching practice, and attachment use (bucketchanges, hammers). Emphasis is placed on stability, spoil management and protecting underground services.

Practical sessions include working in confined areas, precision grading, and maintenance checks to help prolong machine life and reduce downtime.

Graduates receive an operator competency certificate and guidance for further qualification where required by employers or regulators.

Eligibility Requirements

  • At least 16 years old
  • Has had the permit at least 9 months
  • Has completed Driver’s ED Course
  • Has accumulated 50 hours of behind-the-wheel extra practice
  • Has received letter of eligibility from the State
